Head of Payments


The Head of Payments is responsible for the development and execution of the payment's strategy for both the Paddy Power and Betfair brand, a strategy that positions both Flutter UK&I and Intl as a market leader in the online payments space. The Head of Payments is also responsible for all Commercial and Operational facets of Payments.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Customer Operations, the Head of Payments will be an expert in the field of online payments, have the customer at the heart of all that they do whilst maintaining a strategic, “big picture” view on things and be passionate about achieving excellence and developing talent within their team.

What you'll do:

  • Work within the Customer Operations Leadership team to develop and execute the payments elements of our Customer Operations strategy and ensure it is aligned to the overall Flutter UK/I and Intl strategy.
  • Responsibility for delivery of payments operational activity on a day to day basis as well as leading, developing and executing the Payments Strategy with the Payments Leadership Team.
  • Responsibility for ensuring we have a resilient service with effective business continuity plans to enable fast switching to backup providers.
  • Lead our global payment efforts strategically and operationally for our c.+100m annual transactions across both Paddy Power and Betfair brands.
  • Sponsor key projects and initiatives at division and group level.
  • Responsible for future proofing our customer payments infrastructure against the wider business and group strategy.
  • Ownership of a large payment's budget of c£30m ensuring that budget targets are managed rigorously.
  • Ongoing optimisation of payments services to ensure we maximise success rates and cost per unit pricing/fx rates etc..
  • Lead our commercial partnerships with our global payment partners, including working on group deals across Flutter.
  • Liaise with the wider Flutter group Payments functions on strategy, partnerships and operational excellence.
  • Lead the Payments analytical team to deliver excellent Payments insights to help drive future payment initiatives and optimise on existing payment performance.
  • Engage with key executive and senior internal stakeholders across many functions, namely; Commercial, Product, Technology, Compliance and Finance functions.
  • Constantly develop a high performing payments team – providing mentorship, coaching and identifying high performers and working with them to achieve their goals, including career development opportunities
  • Be accountable for fostering a culture of respect, change and learning amongst the teams

Who we're looking for:

  • The ideal candidate must have 8+ years' experience in the eCommerce Payments space.
  • Be an expert in all aspects of online payments – you will be required to have a clear understanding of what is going on across the Global Payments industry ensuring PPB remains at the forefront of customer innovation.
  • A senior payments leader within an international customer-facing company with a global outlook.
  • Strong existing Payments industry and banking relationships.
  • Experience of leading and developing a high performing team.
  • Articulate and confident in interacting with business stakeholders, along with external clients.
  • Strong commercial and strategic acumen.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving efficiency (including cost, use of technology, etc.) whilst delivering a “best in class” customer experience.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage expectations.
  • Bachelor/Master's degree in a business or technology discipline.
